Dock Oscar grew up in the redneck section of New York State, where the smell of cow manure and the sauerkraut factory were permanent fixtures of life. He first tried mastering the mandolin, but couldn't find anyone to teach him. So at the age of 17, he picked up a guitar. Dock also plays the banjo in the two- finger style, and studied bluegrass banjo with Orrin Star. Currently, he holds down banjo duty with the old-time fiddle ensemble The 401K Valley Boys. Eventually, Dock moved to NYC and overcame his shyness playing the open mic circuit. After writing some songs, he formed Sweet William, and began his role as a major player in the Brooklyn country music scene. Dock hosts the monthly King's County Opera, which has been home to the some of the county's finest talent since it's inception in 2003. He's also lending a helping hand again with the 2nd Annual Brooklyn Country Music Festival, brainchild of Alex Battles, scheduled for July of 2005. A sequel to last year's wildly successful menagerie of local acts, this year's festival expands to include eight days of various country music and mayhem. |
